Cuttlebug_itis March Swap

I am having so much fun swapping cards over at Cuttlebug-Itis Swap group. This month we made Cascade cards for the single swap and a Gate Fold card for the group swap. Both swaps critieria were to use the colors of the Spring season. Oh my the cards everyone  made are so pretty.

The first card I made was the Cascade card. I think they are so pretty when the top of the card is punched so here is my first card.

Cascade Card
For this card I used the following:
1. Bazzill White Cardstock
2. SU cardstock and ink pads of Baby Blue, Cameo Coral, YoYo Yellow and Perfect Plum.
3. Martha Stewart punch to make the fencing on top of card. Inked the fencing with SU Perfect Plum.
4. Front panel is using Spellbinders Butterfly Circles. The butterflies used on the fencing are from the die and colored with matching SU markers.
5. Stamp reads "Rebirth of Spring" from Just Rite Nature's Nested Sentiments.
6. Stamps used on main white panels are butterflies and flowers from the Martha Stewart Stamp       Around the Page 10 piece Starter Set.
7. Impression Obsession "Flower Mound" die
8. Spica pens used on the butterflies for a soft shimmer.

My second swap was a Gate Fold card.

CuttlebugItis Group Swap for February

In February, we had a card swap at the CuttlebugItis Swap group. Oh my, the members that participated made some very beautiful cards. Here are my 2 submissions.

First card was for the One-on-One swap. Each member is paired with a partner and they exchange cards.

Items used Cuttlebug Victoria embossing folder, Spellbinders Butterfly Circle Die, Flowers from Cricut Walk in My Garden cartridge, Martha Stewart Pearls, Green Flourish Die Cuts on the Wishblade and White ribbon with satin.

The second card is a Gate Fold card and I love how it came together.

This uses the Cuttlebug Forest Branches embossing folder, Spellbinders Lacey Circles,  Just Rite Birthday Wishes Sentiment set and inside I layers WeRMemoryKeepers Blue Washi Tape.

It was a fun swap and I can't wait to do it again for the March swap. If you would like to play along, please join us at the  Cuttlebug-Itis group. It's so much fun!

Goodbye Dear Friend

This past week, quite unexpectedly, our very dear friend Tim passed away. He was part of our family for 20 years. There were so many things we did together. We went to the local and Nascar races, celebrated family events, and did so many other things with him. One of his greatest joys was hunting. He was a Hunters Education instructor for many years. His friends and family will be missing a very rare individual. It is hard not rushing to grab the phone everyday, knowing it was him calling us. We will never hear his voice or his laughter again.

Here is a card I made for his family.

I used Spellbinders Lacy Circles, Spellbinders Fancy Tags, Just Rite "With Sympathy" clear stamp set, Stampin' Up Chocolate cardstock, Green cardstock, Sizzix Dots embossing folder,  Copic markers, white pearls and ribbon is from GinaK Designs.

Cuttlebug-Itis Group

A few years ago I joined the Cuttlebug-Itis Yahoo Group. Recently Martha Rose retired from it and Beverly Bohannon took over ownership. Beverly owns Classy Cards 'n Such. Check out her store,  her prices are very competitive on many things. I volunteered to help out with the Cuttlebug-Itis Swap group, where we swap cards One-On-One or in Group swaps. We just held our first swap for the month of February and there are many talented and crafty members. Beverly asked me to become a moderator for the groups and I said yes. So I'm having fun!

Baby Shower

Recently I received a box of photos that my grandmother had stashed away, before she passed away. I found photos of my cousin Catherine's baby shower.

I found a layout that I cased from Melinda at http://www.mypapercrafting.com/.  It is listed under her 1 page layouts and it was just so darn cute that I had to make it.

My cousin picked Noah's Ark as the theme for the baby's room so I'm having a blast cutting & making animals from the Animal Kingdom cart, to put on the rest of the pages. I used the following Cricut carts:

Cricut Imagine cart Elise for the background paper
Christmas - Teddy Bear cut out at 5.01"
Nursery Rhyme - Letters cut at 1.12"
Disney Pooh & Friends- Umbrella cut at 2.53"
Tags, Bags, Boxes & More - Flower cut at 1.12"
Square Punches used are 1 1/8" & 1 1/4"
Spellbinders Fancy Frame for under the mat photo
Crystal Flowers sent to me by a friend - on mat and photo

I'm just having to much fun and that's a good thing right?! It's a great way to spend time when it's way to cold to be outside. Right now it's -4 degrees, brrr.

Happy Crafting!

Using Pens & Markers

How do you use your pens and markers in your crafting? Do you use them in your cutting machine or just as stand alone tools?I love using mine with my cutting machines.

I wanted to make a parrot embellishment for my vacation page. I didn't have the color papers that I needed so I found a piece of free artwork online, pixel traced it in Make The Cut program and cut it out. I used my markers to fill in the parrot with the colors from the photo.

Universal Studios Orlando - Jimmy Buffetts Margaritaville

This is the parrot embellishment

Small and Large Parrot embellishments on page

I used white cardstock to draw out the top layer, inserted a marker in cutting machine. Then I went back and cut the layer and filled it in with markers.

Here are some suggestions:
  • There are pen and marker holders made for your cutting machine. Remove your cutting blade and insert the holder with your pen or marker. Now you are ready to let your machine do the drawing of your file before you cut it out.
  •  Let your machine draw your title or do your writing for you. Some people don't like their own handwriting. There are single line fonts available online.
  • Use more than one color to draw your title. Instead of cutting out letters, I chose a font and then I make 2 or 3 sizes for the lettering. Draw the smallest size first. Change out your color and do the next layer in a larger size in another color, same for the 3rd layer. You can add lots of dimension to your title without using layers of paper on our project.
  • Metallic pens and markers give a hint of sparkle to your cuts. They really give a nice especially on holiday files.
  • If you are stamping and don't have a stamp pad in a certain color, swipe your marker over a sponge and add your color.
Get out those forgotten pens and markers and let your machine do the drawing for you.

Happy Crafting!
