Summer Wreath

This week at Classy Cards 'n Such, the challenge is called Pick A Posy. We are supposed to make a handmade flower or flowers! Here is my take on the challenge!

Since moving to the countryside, I see wreaths hanging on doors or fences. I thought it would be fun to create that idea on a card.

I started out with white cardstock for the base of the card. The background was created by using Spellbinders M-Bossabilities Bricks and Bark embossing folder. The bricks are colored with Tim Holtz Broken China and Tea Dye distressed ink pads. I lightened the Broken China by first rubbing my sponge on a white ink pad. Then lightly applied the Tea Dye for to make the brick look old.

The door is the Screen Door with Dog die, from Cheery Lynn Designs. I cut it twice and added a piece of flexible screening between the two doors. To make the door swing open, I cut two small rectangles for hinges and glued them to the back of the door and to the card itself.

The wreath form, I used two Spellbinders Standard Circle dies. For the greenery, I used a branch punch and leaf die. I used a stylus from the Paper Blossoms Paper Tool Kit to shape them. Everything was glued to the wreath using the Art Institute Dries Clear Adhesive with the Art Institute Metal Tip.

The small yellow flowers were created by using the Flower Mound by Memory Box. To get the flowers out of the die, I used the Tool 'n One over the back of the die. To cup the flowers, I used a stylus from the McGill Paper Blossoms Paper Tool Kit and the molding pad from Sizzix Susan's Garden Tool Kit. For the center of the flowers, I used the Yellow Viva Decor Pearl Pen to add a little drop of pearl.

The yellow rose was made with the Spiral Flowers die by Impression Obsession. I used a yellow alcohol marker, Spectrum Noir #CT2, to outline the tops of the flowers. For the center bud, I added a larger drop of the Yellow Viva Decor Pearl Pen.

To finish off the wreath, I added white butterflies, left over from the Spellbinders Butterfly Circles die. I used the blue alcohol marker, Spectrum Noir #TB2, to color the butterflies.

The inside panels of the card are finished off using the blue/green papers from the Bellisima A5 Paper Pack by Papermania. It looks like wallpaper, and gorgeous!

Thanks for taking a look today. Please join us for our weekly challenge, we would love to see your creative cards and projects!

Happy crafting!

3D Letter Project

I am a big fan of Leo and Mary over at svgcuts.com. Mary comes up with the neatest 3D files and they are pretty easy to put together. Here's what I did:

I had purchased the 3D Letters kit from there and decided to do a project for my craft room wall. I will be mounting these on my wall on an angle. I have to admit, I really like how these turned out.

I've also made some lanterns, vases and a few other things from the cutting file kits that I purchased from svgcuts.com. I'll have more posts next week.

Hope your day is going well and happy crafting!

I Love Music

I thought I would surprise Beverly and the design team, with my take on the Musical Motif challenge this week. I love music, so this was an extra fun challenge for me.

I started out with a heavy cardstock for the base. I cut the sheet music to fit the card and gave it a light swipe of Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pads of Pumice Stone and Tea Dye. Using both colors, gives me the look of old piano keys that have been yellowed over time.

Using black cardstock, I die cut the Piano Border by Memory Box. What a great way to remember my great uncle giving me piano lessons.

The red and white background labels above the keyboard, were cut out using the Spellbinders Decorative Labels Eight dies. I used the smallest die in the set.

I wanted to also feature musical notes from the sheet music. I grabbed some white chipboard and die cut the Musical Motif set, also by Memory Box. I colored the cuts with a black marker.

For the heart, I used the Heart Flourish by Impression Obsession. I cut all the extending parts off, to just use the heart outline.

To make my notes and heart stand out, I covered each one with a Versamark pad. For the Musical Motif set, I mixed Black Detail embossing powder and Crystal Ice Ultra fine glitter in a small bowl. I used my small heat gun to heat set the glitter. I covered the notes with my Versamark pad again, then I dipped the notes in a thick clear embossing enamel, and heat set. For the heart, I just used the Versamark pad and the embossing enamel. Now they look like glass with glitter! I added small Joy! Foam Pads under all the notes and heart for dimension.

I hope you enjoy our challenge this week. It would be fun to have you enter and win the prize for the week!

Click any of the gold links above for more info or to purchase any of the products used.

Thanks for taking the time to view my card today! There are a lot more challenges to come each week. Stay tuned!

Shine from Above

Classy Cards 'n Such has weekly card and paper crafting challenges. Each Monday a new challenge with rules are posted. It's a great way to share your card/project and you could even win a prize. Check it out!

This week I decided to surprise Beverly and the design team at Classy Cards 'n Such , and add a card to the challenge.

The Rainbow of Colors Challenge this week brings back memories of gorgeous rainbows I remember from years past. Who doesn't love a rainbow after a rain storm? The colors seem to glow in the sky. The memories of rainbows I have seen over the years, are what led to my card today.

For the base of the card, I used light purple cardstock.

For the main white cardstock panel, I taped in place the Memory Box stencil Texture Shine, over the panel. I didn't want to over power the panel with color, so I sponged in the first five areas of the stencil.

The colors used for the stencil are Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pads. Working left to right, the colors are Victorian Velvet, Broken China, Wild Honey, Spiced Marmalade and Spun Sugar. The ink pads for these colors are sold out, but the Tim Holtz Distress Ink Markers  in these colors are still available in the store.

The sentiment is from the JustRite Hugs and Kisses Sentiments stamp set. I used the Spellbinders Butterfly Circles for the die cut.

I really like how the colors stand out by using the stencil! I invite you to join the  Rainbow of Colors Challenge!

I hope you are inspired to make a colorful card for someone special!

Time Forgotten

It has been a few months since my last posting. Life has been busy to say the least. December alone was crazy. I had to replace my laptop, hubby needed new tires on his truck and then I managed to kill the oven on the cooking range, so we had to get a new one. Talk about some expensive Christmas shopping, these three things alone really put a massive dent into the wallet.

I've been working on scrapbooking my husband's military pictures from 36 years ago. Yep, I'm trying to play catch up with our photos. It's a work in progress, but it's close to being done. I'll be glad when I can move on and start other pages.

In the meantime, I decided to start making cards again. There are many new dies and stamps coming out for 2014, so it's time to get excited again. Recently I bought a few new dies and other things from Classy Cards 'n Such. Here is the card that I came up with.

When I saw the Prairie Chic 6 x 6 paper pad by Bo Bunny, I knew right away what I wanted to do for a card.

For the base of my cards, I like to use 110 lb. weight card stock. This gives me a nice sturdy background to add layers.

The background gray wood paper is from the Prairie Chic 6 x 6 paper pad by Bo Bunny. Using a dual tipped ball stylus from the Paper Blossoms Paper Tool Kit, I embossed the lines between the planks of wood. To make the wood look more aged, I sanded the paper with a sanding block and rubbed white ink for a weathered look.

The Wagon Wheel and Barbed Wire are new from Cheery Lynn Designs. They are the perfect accents for the background paper. The deep detail on both dies really gives the feel of old and worn. First I sanded the wheel and used a brown marker to bring out the depth of the wood of the wheel. I used the small Joy! Foam Pads to give dimension under both dies. For the center hub of the wheel, I added a brass colored brad.

Since I wanted the Wagon Wheel and Barbed Wire to look like they had been forgotten in time, I used dark green card stock and cut apart the new PoppyStamps Leafy Sprig Border and wove the sprigs between the wheel spokes. Glossy Accents was used to adhere the sprigs to the back of the wheel.

I added the Grass Border die from Impression Obsession. I cut the grass in both tan and olive green card stock and added more Joy! Foam Pads for depth.

To finish the shabby look, the flowers are from the Memory Box die Flower Mound. I used the small dual tipped stylus from the Paper Blossoms Paper Tool Kit to shape the flowers and glued them on with Glossy Accents.

Other tools used:

Tweezer Bee
Paper Blossoms Craft Molding Mat
Silhouette Pick-Me-Up - to pick up flowers
Metal Snippers - to cut apart the Barbed Wire die
Crafters Tools - to pop out flowers from die

That's it for today. Happy crafting!

Debbie
